LIFE AND WORK

Kate Smith was born in Somerset, England and grew up in Vancouver, B.C. She studied Shoe Design at Parsons's School of Art and Design, N.Y. and Fashion Design in Vancouver , B.C. Many years were spent in Manhattan building an array of custom built shoes ranging from eccentric high-heeled golf shoes, shoes with a miniture television set into the vamp, to a more conservative line of classic brogues.

Kate has worked as a costume designer for Hunkpapa Films in Vancouver and Costumer for such dance companies as Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal and Ballet Hispanico, N.Y.

Kate continues to design and build shoes in her studio getting much inspiration from the profusion of wild flowers in her cottage garden.
